Blue Beard adventures is hosting a group in the Mendocino National Forest to watch the fireworks in the central valley. Basecamp will be at Boardman Camp, with options to explore the surrounding trail network during the day.

About the event

Join Dylan Pankow aka Blue Beard Adventures will be hosting his annual 4th of July event in the Mendocino National Forest.  Dylan has been gracious enough to allow OTG to join in on the fun!  If you're not familiar with Dylan, he produces the go-to channel on Youtube for all things related to the Mendocino NF.

Basecamp will be at Board Tree campground, and while there isn't set itinerary for the day, groups will be venturing out to explore the extensive trail network of the Mendocino National Forest.  The highlight of the trip will be watching the fireworks from a mountaintop that overlooks the Sacramento Valley.     

Options for day trips include:

- Visit Anthony Peak

  • - Visit Hull Mountain
  • - Swimming at Black Butte and Eel Rivers (near black butte river ranch)
  • - Swimming at Rattlesnake Creek
  • - Visit M6 and the game reserve

Event Details

Location: Board Tree Campground   39.654309, -122.836049

Recommended Vehicle:  4x4, Sprinter, or AWD vehicles should have no issues getting to the campground.  

Event Dates:  The event officially begins on Friday evening, but because the group will be at Board Tree Campground the entire weekend, you may arrive whenever you like.  

Blue Beard:  Be sure to say "Hi" to Mr Blue Beard himself (you can't miss him, he's 6'4 with a Blue Beard!) and let him know you're with OTG!  

Directions Coming from the North Bay

You'll need to take FH7 (also referred to as Highway 162 / Mendocino Pass Road) in order to get to board tree.  For those coming from the North Bay, head up to Covelo and take FH7 into the mountains until you reach road 312 and swing a right until you reach Board Tree a few minutes later.  

Directions Coming from Sacramento and the Central Bay Area

Take I-5 north to Willows, then take hwy 162 East until it turns into FH7.  When you reach road 312 swing a left and you'll be at Board Tree camp a few minutes later.
