Joshua Tree ADV Route - Feb 2024

Come join the OTG crew as we take on the Joshua Tree Adventure Route.  We'll be capping attendance at 6 total vehicles.

Vehicle & Gear Requirements

You'll need a high clearance 4x4 (33" tires with 1-2" lift) with a full size spare tire.  Most of the roads in JTNP are relatively mild, but things will get bump/rockier as we exit the park and explore some of the old mines off of Old Dale Road.  

Fees & Permits

All folks joining will need to either have an annual National Park pass or pay the entrance fee for JTNP on the first day ($30 per vehicle).

Camping

We have a couple of group sites reserved at Sheep Pass Group Camp for night 1 (Feb 22).  The event fees help us cover the group camp costs and extra money will go to purchasing firewood.  Event fees DO NOT cover park entrance fees.  We'll camp on BLM land nights 2 and 3.  

Pets

Well behaved dogs may attend.  While dogs are allowed in the park, they are not permitted on hiking trails.  So if you're planning to bring Fido, they should be comfortable staying behind in your vehicle if you plan to join one of our short hikes.

Families with Children

Families with children are welcome to join, but your kids should be accusstomed to traveling long days in the vehicle and multiple days in the backcountry.

Itinerary -- Feb 22-25

The detailed itinerary and GPX file will be posted in the forums as the date nears.  Our days will consist of exploring the park, some shorter hikes (potentially up to 2-3 miles), and lots of driving.  Days 2 and 3 will comprise the majority of our off road driving.  

Prep

Your typical camping/overlanding gear, but be sure to bring extra propane/butane for cooking given the length of this trip.  Weather can be quite variable in Joshua Tree in the winter months.  Since this is a shorter trip, we recommend checking the forecast and packing appropriately.
