Expedicion Baja California - Feb. 2024

Join the OTG for our first ever Trail Run event in Baja California!  Over the course of 10 days, we'll camp along the beautiful turquoise waters of the Sea of Cortez, the Pacific Ocean, explore Baja's lush oases, visit historic colonial missions, sample local cuisine/seafood and more!   

Vehicle & Gear Requirements

You'll need a high clearance 4x4 (33" tires with 2" + lift and you must have a full size spare) and ability to carry at least 5 gallons of extra fuel.  Plan on travelling 200+ miles between fuel stops.  

Passports/Documents & Insurance, 

You'll need a passport, Tourist Card (FMM) and Mexican auto insurance in order to drive your vehicle in Mexico.

Tourist Card (FMM) is also required for short term travel through Mexico. https://www.bajabound.com/before/permits/visa

Firearms

Leave all firearms at home as you will not be able to bring them into Mexico. 

Pets

Well behaved dogs may attend.  If your dog is aggressive towards people or other animals, please leave them at home.  In order to ensure a swift border crossing with your pet it's recommended that you bring vaccination records, rabies certificate, and proof of ownership.  More info about traveling with pets to Mexico can be found at Baja Bound.  

Families with Children

Families with children are welcome to join, but your kids should be accussomed to traveling long days in the vehicle.  This trip is not recommended for children who have not experienced long distance, weeklong trips in the backcountry.

The detailed itinerary and GPX file will be posted in the forums as the date nears.  Some of the places we plan to visit include San Felipe, Bahia de Los Angeles, San Francisquito, Playa Requeson, Scorpion Bay, Paraiso Misional, Los Patetes, Cataviña, and more.  Cross back across the border on the morning of Feb 25.

Prep

Your typical camping/overlanding gear, but be sure to bring extra propane/butane for cooking given the length of this trip.  Weather can be quite variable in Baja this time of year.  So bringing everything from shorts and flip flops, rain jacket, and warm winter coat is recommended just in case!  We'll include a complete packing guide in the forum post.
